Shibito: “Bella….everything is going to be..ok….”

As i guide my characters through a Shibito dominated village in Japan i find myself in a suprisingly weak position. My means to fight off danger range from minimal to none. After playing the role of Kratos and the hero (or should i say villain..) in Fable II, Siren’s (PS3) playable characters are weaklings in comparison. In fact they are pathetic, desperate human beings trying to make sense of what’s going on and manage a seemingly impossible escape. One of these characters is just a little girl for whom any attention from the Shibito is fatal. Snake and Sam Fischer can handle themselves well if the situation arises. For Bella, this little girl here, stealth and hiding in closets is her only guide to survival.

Much like the Bold and the Beautiful drama series, the release schedule of great games this season appears endless. Although i have not read any reviews yet my vote for Game of the Week goes to Left 4 Dead. The Valve name behind this game guarantees quality. After playing the demo on my 360 i was sold on the game and i can't wait to experience the zombie onslaught on numerous cold, winter nights with 3 more well-armed friends online.

Leap of Faith

It's the sweet smell of Friday and not just that of my morning Jacobs that has dragged me from my bed to the laptop keyboard. As my mind and heart calculate with joy (think Scrooge McDuck but with games!) the games schedule for the weekend  i will spare a thought (and a blog post) for EA DICE Mirror's Edge which is released today.

New Game Controls... And the Royal Philharmonic

The Mont was troubled all Tuesday night by the insomniac’s burden: a long and vivid dream.

There he was, standing before the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra wearing nothing but a bow tie and polished Brogue shoes, trying desperately to conduct proceedings. Matters were a little complicated given that the assembled ensemble were composed of row after row of former FHM cover girls, and our maestro had only his manhood  instead of the usual baton. (One assumes they moved the orchestra a little further back that night)

No, it's not the expansion pack to the MMO that millions of  people are paying to play almost 24 hours a day. Nope, it's not WoW: Wrath of the Lich King. Neither is COD: World at War a follow up (but not quite) to one of the most critically acclaimed and commercialy successfull games of 2007.

For those about to rock

After forking out a fortune to get the entire instruments pack from ebay and the intial (1-2 months) exuberance of playing the drums i completely abandoned the game. I even dowloaded a few more songs and did not play them.

The Mont seems to flounder amid the uncertain and nefarious social norms of team player gaming.    Whilst there may be an unrivalled satisfaction in slogging it out mono et mono in open 1 against all combat, it is all too often followed by that daunting request “so and so and such and such invites you to party” or join team death match etc. A request soon followed by “so and so wants to be your friend”. As pleasing as it is to earn friendship through one’s skill with an AK47, accepting friend party invites too often ends in either:

Virtual Morality

From a very young age, at least most of us, are taught the difference between choosing right and wrong, being good or evil, acting polite or being rude, supporting Liverpool or Man U and so on. It inevitably becomes ingrained in our brain and there is not much room in the average person's mind to contemplate different courses of action when it comes to making a decision during predicaments encountered throughout one's time spent in the real world.

What makes a game?

On Sunday I completed Hotel Dusk: Room 215 on the DS. It is a deeply flawed game that still managed to captivate me. It had the promise of being a fantastic game but did not deliver. Its strengths which were the characters, writing and plot proved to be its greatest flaw.

This week's releases 3/11/08-9/11/08

November 2008 marks the month of the war of Xbox Live. The 2 heavyweights of FPS multiplayer, Halo 3 and COD4, are facing a new kid on the block. This kid that has been around the block before, dominating multiplayer sessions. Gears of War is back. I am not a fan of the series and in fact i am more interested in Motorstorm (,LittleBigPlanet again!) and EndWar but there is no denying the impact which Gears of War is going to have. X360 gamers have the upper hand on their PS3 counterparts when it comes to shooters.

Epic's Gears of War 2 is my game of the week.

This week's releases 27/10 to 31/10

As i am building my family business empire in Fable II i can't help but notice that other RPG on the horizon heading our way. From the legends at Bethesda we can expect a title which can compete with the likes of GTAIV and LittleBigPlanet for game of the year awards. Oblivion remains, unfortunately one my all time great games that i wish i had spent more time on. If you are on the same boat as i am then we can together make amends with Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 is my game of the week.

Through the Fire and Flames

Lately, as in two days ago, I managed to rekindle my inner gaming flame that had been reduced to a dull lukewarm glow ever since I left London for pastures new.

It needed a major kick-start to get those flames raging once more. After months of squalor and saving every surplus cent I departed with a wad of e-cash in exchange for 50 inches of High Definition perfection. For you technology anoraks out there, she rolls under the tag of Pioneer PDP-LX5090, and she is pure class.

But enough of my pixel fetish, the point is my games are now treated with the respect and love that their divine creator intended and I am lapping up every bit of that eye candy.

To Gearbox with love

An air of satisfaction filled my empty brain on Sunday morning as I completed BIA:HH’s last mission. Alas, it was not because I had successfully overcome insurmountable challenges in the game and not because I had played one my most anticipated games of 2008. No. It was because It gave me the freedom to move on to better things.

This week's releases 20/10/08-24/10/08

Oh yes. That time of the year has come. The monsoon of games. The satellites have picked up this phenomenon heading to gamers all over the world. We just need to make the decide to which game(s?) we should seek refuge. I would be hard pressed to pick just one game this week but if i had a gun to my head forcing me to make that choice then it would have to be LittleBigPlanet.

World of Goo

There I was, minding my own business determined to devote gaming time to FIFA09, BIA:HH and Hotel Dusk. "No more games until one of them is finished (that excludes FIFA of course). That’s my decision and I am sticking to it."

That is what i said.

But there is only so much a man like me, a respectable professional,  can endure. Eurogamer’s reviewer gave it and 9 and in his final paragraph says
